What We Do
We are a part of a network of 184 community-based, autonomous member organizations in the United States, Canada, and 14 other countries that serve people with obstacles to employment through education, training and job placement services. As a non-profit organization, we help people become independent, tax-paying members of their communities, by giving them opportunity to work, earn income and enjoy a sense of pride and self-esteem. Our work and mission are focused on long-term employment solutions for persons with disabilities and individuals with social and economic disadvantages. In 2007, Goodwill Industries, serving Central Virginia and Hampton Roads, served 10,462 individuals through career development and support services.
Our Mission: Our business is changing lives…helping people help themselves through the power of work.
Our Vision: Everyone has the opportunity to find their purpose, reach their highest level of self sufficiency, and become productive members of our community.
To fund our mission, we collect donated clothing, household and other items to sell in our six retail stores, and provide industrial services to the federal government. Each business unit at Goodwill generates revenue, while serving as front-line training ground for the development of job skills.
Our Core Values:
- Commitment - We embrace the mission in all that we do. We are dedicated to a strong work ethic and believe in the inherent value of "work".
- Innovation - We encourage change and creativity, build on our successes and failures as well as those of others.
- Integrity - We maintain honesty and ethical behavior that engenders trust in all of our business transactions and relationships.
- Learning - We challenge each other to strive for excellence and to continually learn.
- Respect - We treat all individuals with honor and dignity.
- Teamwork - We commit to the success of others, share expertise, work together to build productive relationships, and celebrate with recognition and sincere appreciation.
